About Us

An academic research team, led by Prof. Uriel Abulof, recipient of the Teaching Innovation Award, and students from Tel Aviv University.
Our goal is to offer a new yet ancient vision for Israeli society and the world at large: one rooted in deliberative and direct democracy.

Through research, teaching, and practical initiatives - both within and beyond the ivory tower - we seek to outline a concrete roadmap for realizing this vision and reviving democracy in Israel and around the world.

Our Story

Since we were children, we were taught about the importance of democracy. Some of us even went to vote with our parents every few years. As we grew older, we continued that tradition, listening to politicians before elections and casting our vote for our favorite one. We all believed in it at some point, perhaps we still do, that our voice truly matters.
We studied civics, we follow the news, and those among us who haven’t yet lost hope still make their way to the ballot box once every few years. But the generation growing up today has known only a broken political system, a constant loop of politician speeches and elections. Something in that cycle, the repeated promise of new hope and change, only to end up back where we started, has led not only to a loss of faith in politicians, but in the political system itself, and even in ourselves. That cycle we want to break. Our goal is clear: to revive democracy and strengthen civic engagement.

Inspired by the concept of “3D Democracy”, we explore new ways for “We, the People” not only to elect representatives, but to share reflection, deliberation, and collective decision-making about our common future.

This coming fall, we are launching a first-of-its-kind pilot at Tel Aviv University: an assembly and referendum in which students, faculty, and staff will vote on a real issue concerning life on campus.

This is not a simulation, it is a live experiment in civic agency, a renewed exploration of the very essence of democracy.

In addition, we have developed Project HaKahel (לא יודעת איך לתרגם את זה): “Multi-Dimensional Democracy for Israel” - a groundbreaking legislative framework that restores power to the citizens themselves. Through citizens’ assemblies, where ordinary Israelis engage in deep deliberation on crucial national issues, and referendums, where the people make the final decision, we aim to move beyond a system defined by a single election day every few years.

Instead, we add new dimensions of deliberation and direct decision-making, tools that have proven effective around the world and that, according to surveys, the Israeli public is ready to embrace. This is not a cosmetic reform but a quiet democratic revolution: a shift from a politics of “they decide for us” to a politics in which we, the people, truly determine our own destiny, together, transparently, and responsibly.

The interactive experience of direct democracy comes to life through aMaze’n Politics - a groundbreaking role-playing game that invites you into a labyrinth of political and personal dilemmas, where you discover who you truly are, and who you might want to become.

Imagine living as a citizen of ancient Athens, a general in Brazil, a colony president on Mars, or a digital influencer in Korea, each of your choices shapes your own “Golden Compass,” revealing the values that guide you, often without you even realizing it. This is not just a simulation, it’s a living laboratory for exploring political systems, rediscovering democracy, and proving that even here, on your own screen, real politics can happen.

Get ready for a journey that will change the way you see yourself - and the political world around you - because this time, it’s happening right here.

As democracies around the world grow increasingly unstable, and many lose faith in the political system, choosing not to choose at all, we seek to restore hope.
Not through a new party, but by renewing the very meaning of citizenship itself: to be citizens who think, deliberate, speak, and decide together, and taking shared responsibility for our common life.

We believe it is time for a new tradition:
not only to vote, but to listen, deliberate, decide, and create together a new democracy.
